Afton UMC is now offering in-person, in-church worship services and will also continue to live stream the services for the foreseeable future. The live stream can be accessed in real time via the Afton UMC Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pg/Afton-United-Methodist-Church-Ophelia-VA-1778420169036572/videos/ OR at a later time, as the all the livestreamed worship services since March 15 are available on the Afton UMC Facebook page.

People who wish to attend Afton’s in-person, in-church worship service should contact the Charge office (804-453-3770) or the pastor (540-809-9099) OR may go here to the Virginia Conference website to register and fill out or update the health questionnaire online.

Print and audio versions of the sermons are available on the Afton church website: www.aftonumc.org.

The offering for the past week (September 14-20) at Afton UMC was $840. The Afton attendance on Sunday, September 13 was 17 adults in the church and 5 persons online.

A warm welcome to the Carey family who will provide the music for the offertory this morning: Mike, Kate, Anna, and Ingrid on violin, guitar, ukulele, and percussion!

Fairfields UMC is planning to have a yard sale this fall. Please contact Jill Davis (580-8127) to arrange to drop off items.

The Northumberland Charge is keeping regular office hours (Tuesday – Thursday 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) but is still closed to visitors for the next several weeks. Please telephone or send an email to communicate with the secretary.

From the Pastor – Please consider a donation to help with recovery in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Isaias, remembering that disaster response, relief, and recovery efforts cost money.  If you wish to make a donation, please write your check to Afton UMC and write “VAUMC Advance Special #5037 Disaster Response” in the memo line of your check and send your check to The Northumberland Charge P.O. Box 579 Burgess VA 22432.

Friday, September 25 5:45 – 9:00 p.m. – A Night with New Room via Zoom. Go to https://newroomconference.com/ to register and get the Zoom link and passcode. This is a free event and will include prayer, Bible reading, encouragement, and a concert beginning at 8:00 p.m.Sunday, September 27  9:00 a.m. – Adult Sunday School via Zoom.

Saturday, September 26 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. – “The Return” – A National Day of Repentance and Prayer on the Capitol Mall in Washington D.C. which may be attended in person OR viewed on a simulcast at Light of Christ Anglican Church located at 9500 Northumberland Highway in Heathsville. There is no charge for this event and people who attend the simulcast are free to come and stay as long as they wish. For more information, go to thereturn.org.

Monday, September 28 6:30 p.m. – Leadership Board meeting.

Tuesday, September 29 5:30 p.m. – Bible study at Afton UMC, both in-person at the church and via Zoom.

Thursday, October 1 10:30 a.m. – Bible study at Fairfields UMC, both in-person and via Zoom.  

Saturday, October 3 5:00 p.m. – Charge Conference via Zoom. People from both churches can meet at Fairfields to participate or they may participate from home. For Zoom link information, please call the Charge office 804-453-3770.

Tuesday, October 6 10:00 a.m. – UMW meeting.
